Healthcare Brand Expansion in India
Case Study: How we helped a nutrition brand expand in India the right way

I am guessing you either run a Healthcare Business or know someone who does!
The health and dietary supplements market in India is HUGE.
The reason for that is simple - there's low nutrient intake in India.
Our diet is basically messed up.
That's why a lot of brands, domestic and foreign tend to occupy this space.
You will be surprised to know this but the dietary supplement market is still dominated by foreign brands.
This is due to the trust and reputation international brands have.
Recently, one of our clients, who runs a plant-based sports nutrition health brand in the US reached out to us.
They wanted some advice on how they can expand their product into India.
And also bring their product here.
Problems:
1) Importing Challenges.
They were aware of the rigorous process of importing food products into the US.
But they also wanted to know how difficult or easier is it to do so in India.
2) Packaging and Labeling.
Again, they were aware of the US Markets.
But they wanted to know about the packaging and labeling requirements applicable to Indian Markets;
3) Advertising and Legal Stuff.
They also wanted to know about any advertising restrictions in place.
In order to get their product in front of the public, they will have to advertise it.
And also wanted to know about any other legal or regulatory requirements applicable.
Solutions:
1) Advised On Import Procedure in India
There are some general requirements for importing products in India, including company registration, and getting an Import-Export Code (IEC).
We explained everything to them.
There are also requirements for procuring an Import license from FSSAI as the category we are dealing in is a food product/ingredients.
FSSAI is the regulatory body for food safety and standards.
We helped them get a clear idea of that, and over the course of months, helped them procure it.
We further advised him on the process of customs clearance and FSSAI clearance when a food product is being imported into India.
2) Labeling and Packaging Requirements
We guided them on how to label their products properly.
Things like what info to put on the label, such as product details, usage instructions, warnings, nutritional info, and declarations.
As his product was already FDA-approved, most of the requirements were already complied with.
3) Permitted Levels
As the permitted % may sometimes vary greatly for food additives and other content across jurisdictions, we advised them on the maximum permitted level for food additives in India
And also advised them on approved ingredients allowed by FSSAI to be used in Food Supplement products.
Results:
The whole thing was a success.
We were able to advise them on everything they needed to look out for.
Focusing on the steps they can take, or how we can help them get there.
Basically, a road map to expand in India.
I will continue to post case studies like these every Sunday from now on!
All of you will be the first ones to get access to this.
The Newsletter gives me a better way to actually communicate everything with you guys.
See ya next time and have a happy sunday!
